Dillard’s Smarter Computing Approach to Business Intelligence

Smarter Computing In Action When you first think of retail, what comes to mind? Sure, for most of us retail means buying a new pair of pants or purchasing milk from the grocery store. For someone in the industry however, initial thoughts probably lean more along the lines of customer relationships, data management and merchandise management. It’s those last three points that link the retail industry to Smarter Computing.

Leveraging Smarter Computing for all organizations, including retail, can help optimize systems for these kinds of workloads, and can improve overall business processes. So let’s see it in action!

Dillard's Department StoresFor Dillard’s, with 300 nationwide department stores, there-in lies a huge volume of logistical and customer data. The company needed a business intelligence solution to organize and process this massive data and enable better business decisions, for which they turned to IBM’s Smart 7600 System. The new analytics environment provided comprehensive data analysis and metrics to improve decision-making about logistics, pricing, and customer relationships without swelling their IT budget.

“The benefits of smart computing, the smart analytics environment, are not unique to Dillard’s, they are not unique to retail industries as a whole, this is something that all organizations that have large volumes and small volumes of data can benefit from.”

Melody Playford, Director of Business Analytics and Performance Optimization for Dillard’s Department Stores
